| Frequently Asked Questions Q: So, what is Saint Mark's Body all about? A: It's a historical adventure novel of about 97,000 words based on a true story: how Venetian merchants captured the relics of Saint Mark the Evangelist from Alexandria, Egypt in 827-828 A.D.. This event gave Venice a new patron saint, and launched that tiny republic on a path to become the greatest sea-empire of the Medieval Mediterranean. My novel explores how the Venetians managed to get the body, and why it mattered so much. Q: How did you get the idea? A: I first heard this story several years ago while I was visiting Venice. I was amazed, and wanted to know more--but there wasn't any more to know. So I decided to write in the missing details as historical fiction. Q: Great! Can I read it? A: Not until it's published. I'm currently seeking a literary agent to represent the book. That agent will sell it to a publisher. Q: Forget all that! Why don't you just self-publish and cut out the middlemen? A: For a few reasons. First, I'll have much more commercial success if I go with a mainstream publisher, and I do think the book is good enough to go that route. A mainstream publisher will edit and market the book to help us both sell a superior product. Q: So what's this "Buono's Tale" all about, then? A: Buono da Malamocco is one of the Venetian merchants who took Saint Mark's body. In my novel he's a middle-aged, very experienced sea captain. Buono's Tale is a prequel to Saint Mark's Body. It tells the story of young Buono, beginning 27 years before the events of Saint Mark's Body. I'm releasing Buono's Tale online as a free, serialized webnovel. It's hard to sell a debut novel, and it's even harder if your debut novel is a full-size historical fiction. I hope to build a fanbase for the prequel, and be able to show prospective agents and publishers that there is a ready market for Saint Mark's Body... so I hope you enjoy reading it, and every click you make helps me move closer to my goal of being a published novelist.
